June has been such a busy month – with so much to write about I’m not sure where to start. Hopefully you have read about Babykins first show via my News page. He was such a poppet I was so please with him.
Team LR Eventing headed back to Little Downham International Event for another crack at the BE100 Open class – resulting in a 4th place! Scoring a nice mark of 30 in the Dressage, 4 faults to add Show Jumping & a Clear inside the time Cross Country! Finally it felt like another amazing event but we had a bit of luck too with a placing. A huge thank you to my trainer Malcolm for helping me warm up in the Dressage phase and supporting me throughout! Next time out is scheduled to be Milton Keynes with a run at Novice.
Stepping up seemed a little daunting mainly as me and Wizard have not had much technical training for the tricky cross country combinations. So we headed up to Vale View for a lesson with Caroline Moore – she was amazing and so helpful. Plus we had some lovely compliments on how much we had improved since she had last seen us months ago. Our partnership is really starting to come together and I am so proud to have the ride on Wizard. I also owe our improvement to Julia Dungworth & Malcolm Holthausen who have been coaching me on jumping & flat. Caroline says we need to work on ‘the 3 before the last 3’ which means keeping rhythm & balance on the 3 strides before the 3 strides before a fence. I tend to set a good canter & rhythm but with being so keen Wizard often disturbs this I need to practise keeping him quite without over riding. We warmed up over some show jumping then headed for the XC style jumps riding some tricky lines. A failed first attempt landed me in trouble as Caroline says it’s not about looking pretty it’s about getting from A to B – so I got it together and we did it! Third time we did the combinations with plenty of style too!
Following this we Show jumped at Keysoe (see News page for report) as Milton Keynes then Buckminster Events where cancelled. With my season all messed up I hope we can get a run soon.
July & my Birthday looming, I’m really hoping it will bring sunshine – when will our next event be … Keep an eye out!
